Meet Edward A. Shure

Edward A. "Ted" Shure received a bachelor of music in piano performance from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.  His primary piano teachers were Leonard Shure and Victor Rosenbaum.  He studied choral conducting with Lorna Cooke DeVaron, vocal coaching with Mark Pearson, and orchestral conducting with Steven Karidoyanes.  As a choral conductor, Mr. Shure held the post of Music Director for the Winston-Salem Symphony Chorale and director for a variety of church ensembles.  Mr. Shure currently holds the positions of Director of the Cuyahoga Falls Community Chorus and most recently, he was appointed Music Director of the Chagrin Valley Choral Union, a 54 year old organization which performs the "masterworks" of the choral literature. Mr. Shure's debut concert as music director will be on December 10, 2006. It will include Vivaldi's Gloria and Britten's Ceremony of Carols among other seasonal favorites. Additionally, Mr. Shure sings in the Akron Symphony Chorus where he serves on the Chorus Relations Committee, on the Artistic Policy Committee for the Orchestra's Board of Directors, and as bass section leader.

Mr. Shure is the Founding Director of the Stow Chamber Orchestra Chorus. During the inaugural season of the Stow Chamber Orchestra Chorus, Mr. Shure prepared Handel's Messiah and a holiday concert in addition to a critically acclaimed performance of Vivaldi's Gloria with the Stow Chamber Orchestra. Additionally, Mr Shure prepared and conducted a concert with the SCO Chorus, which included Randall Thompson's Frostiana with special poetic narration of the Robert Frost poems by Sylvia Docking, the afternoon classical music host from 89.7 WKSU, Northeast Ohio's NPR Affiliate.

The Cuyahoga Falls Community Chorus, under Mr. Shure’s direction, performed for President George W. Bush during the President’s historic visit to Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio on October 2, 2004. Since then Mr. Shure has increased the visibility, outreach, and membership of the Chorus.

Mr. Shure has won numerous competitions and has judged various competitions and festivals throughout Northeast Ohio and around the Country.

Mr. Shure gained significant knowledge in both teaching and performing through his participation in master classes and chamber music classes with such acclaimed musicians as Joseph Gingold, Dorothy DeLay, Leonard Shure, Menahem Pressler, Andre Watts, Gabriel Chodos, Russell Sherman, and Benjamin Zander.

Mr. Shure performed as an orchestra pianist with the New Mexico and the Savannah Symphony Orchestras.  He also founded and performed in chamber music series with the Greensboro (NC), New Mexico, Savannah, and Shreveport (LA) Symphony Orchestras.

As a rehearsal accompanist, Mr. Shure worked with such distinguished conductors as Claudio Abbado, Robert Shaw, Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, Antal Dorati, Randall Thompson, and Sir Andrew Davis.  He has also performed as an accompanist with a variety of instrumental and vocal ensembles.

Mr. Shure serves as a volunteer for numerous organizations locally and nationally including the Akron Symphony Orchestra, the Cuyahoga Falls Chamber of Commerce, the Ohio Music Teachers Association State Board of Directors, and the American Symphony Orchestra League.

Mr. Shure is a member of the American Choral Directors Association and Chorus America.

Mr. Shure, his wife, Gina, and their daughter Kathryn, reside in Cuyahoga Falls with their two parrots, Doosie and Eden. His hobbies include flight simulation, web design, swimming, and photography.
